Blub is a modular tracker for macOS in the style of Jeskola Buzz. Instruments and effects are machines on a canvas, connected with cables. Each machine has its own patterns, and the song sequence decides which pattern plays at each position.
Any AU or VST3 plugin installed on your Mac can be loaded as a machine, next to a set of built-in machines.
Blub is an experimental project in Beta state. Expect missing features, changes between versions and the occasional crash. Song file compatibility is only guaranteed from version 1.0 onwards. The app checks for updates on its own from the Blub menu.
Machines and Cables
Generators, effects and MIDI machines are placed on a zoomable canvas and wired together by dragging cables between ports.
Built-in MIDI Machines
These follow the song tempo, and keep running on their own clock when the transport is stopped so they can be played live.
Patterns and Sequence
Patterns are edited in a tracker view with note, velocity, parameter and trigger columns, using the FT2 keyboard layout. The sequence takes one key per pattern, Buzz style, and has a loop range, play from cursor and automation lanes with step values or curves. The sequence view can show all machines, only generators, effects or MSG machines, or a single machine.
Mixer and Master
Each machine has a mixer strip with volume, pan, mute, solo and VU meters with peak hold and clip lights. The master track has automatable volume and pan, a spectrum analyzer and a goniometer.
Songs and Export
Songs save every machine, cable, pattern and plugin state in one file, with plugin states compressed. Full undo and redo is available. The whole song or the loop range can be exported to 256 kbps AAC.
